First let me say I LOVE PINGUY, It rocks !! Now for the problem I'm having. I have an older system with windows XP home and decided to install Pinguy on top of Windows. After downloading to my desktop and burning to dvd I rebooted and began the install. Before the install finished an error popped up saying the installer had failed. I pressed continue multiple times only to have the same error re-appear, each time saying the hard drive was bad or that the DVD burner was dirty, so I finally hard booted the system thinking to reburn the dvd on another system and reload Pinguy. This has proved to be a disaster as the first install has tried to load for over an hour unsuccessfully. I removed the hard drive thinking to reformat it via an adapter and windows doesn't see it and I can't figure out how to reformat it using Pinguy. Please understand I'm new to Linux and although learning daily, I'm so new I can't find the answer as to how to either repair the install or to get the system to reinstall Pinguy. My other Pinguy system sees the HD and files.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot wait to dump Microsoft completely and appreciate what this community has to offer.

Put the hard drive back into the system and run Pinguy OS as a live DVD. Once loaded in the menu you will see a program called Gparted.

Just make your changes to the Hard Disk with that. There is a bug when trying to encrypt the home when installing. If you select that it will fail to install.
Just install it without encrypting.

If it still fails to install after that then it might be a bad DVD burn. If you have a USB stick kicking around you could try installing Pinguy OS from a USB stick.

Also make sure the MD5Sum matches.

There are no silly questions. Everything is new to you, so how are you supposed to know without asking? Expect more questions as you go along, and even more as you begin to catch on. It's fun and a little exciting.

I am very happy you was able to resolve your installation issue, but I am curious... What version of Pinguy OS were you trying to install? Also, what are the specs of the computer you're tried installing Pinguy OS to?

I am having this exact same issue so i thought id chime in. I tried to install 11.04.1 64bit on my PC, dual booted with Windows 7. The installer failed towards the end of install. I tried installing again using a 32 bit disk, same result. I then tried installing the 32 bit version on my laptop, dual booting with Windows also, overwriting Debian in the process, same result. The only thing that I can think of is that yes, i did have encrypt home folder selected on all installs. From reading above posts, is this the only way I am going to be able to install Pinguy on my systems? Also, if I cannot encrypt the home folder while installing, is there a way to do so within Pinguy once the installation has completed? I'd very much like to be able to encrypt my home folder on both systems if possible. Thanks!
