I installed Pinguy 11.10 and am loving it so far, just a few things that need to be worked out. 1) ppa are not working, like dropbox. 2) Compiz effects are not working. I have tried the simple settings and the advanced one too. All the animations refuse to work, it's like compiz is not even recognized by the system.
I let my friend borrow my usb drive and he installed fine and got all animations working from the start on his netbook.

Someone help me.

11.10 is using Gnome Shell that is not compatible with Compiz. Instead Gnome Shell uses Mutter.

He is not even a tech person, I have no idea how he was able to do it.

Hi, might I suggest you ASK him regarding what he did,step by step????
Umm, you might like to try adding Gnome Tweak Tool, it might help you get things sorted out to your satisfaction

Well I was right next to him when he did it, I was thinking it could be his processor/ gpu, He has an hp mini 210 and I have a asus u46e with a intel hd 3000, I am at a loss as to how it worked for him
