Try using the 'conky-companions' PPA repository, as that is updated for 12.04.

Try the following command:

sudo hddtemp /dev/sda -n --unit=C

You need the sudo command for hddtemp!

The point of that command is that it's used in conky. So conky doesn't show the results because it needs sudo privileges.

BTW, why does measuring the temperature of my HDD needs privileged access? That makes no sense. Security, ok, but that is just non sense.

So, to use conkyforecast we need to install it from conky-companions?

It works and I have conkyforecast working.

Now how do I solve the hddtemp thing?

Hi folks

Two things to start with:

conkyForecast
Yes, all of kaivalagi's python scripts are available in the conky companion PPA - conkyForecast being one. And he always built them to "Hardy" so any version will work, they are all the same. But (I may be wrong here) you need two keys for conkyForecast to work and unless you have them I don't think it will work. They (weather.com) have changed things and it's not free anymore. There are people working on a 'wunderground' conkyForecastWU (available in the archive) near the end of that thread.

hddtemp - I don't need to use sudo to run it:

SDA ${execi 15 hddtemp -n /dev/sda}°

but I do this to reconfigure hddtemp:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure hddtemp

1. Answer YES
2. Second Screen - 0 is good [Enter]
3. Answer NO

That's it - if it didn't start working --- log out and come back, you should NOT see that warning and in conky:

In a terminal:

 $ hddtemp /dev/sda

mrpeachy's v9000 LUA weather script.

Left - conkyForecast (weather.com)
top - v9000 lua weather (intellicast)
right-bottom - Auccweather US one of Teo's

Hi,

i'm new to conky and after few hours of try/fail i finally understood the basics Smile

However i still have a problem to make weather part works correctly.

once i run "conky" in terminal i get the following errors:

i basically COMMENT all lines relative to weather in .conkyrc file.

i like in Slovakia at kosice so my location information is: <loc id="LOXX0003" type="1">Kosice, Slovakia</loc>
i read several post about this topic and it seems there is not standard way how to use it and make it properly works Sad

so where is the problem with .conkyForecast file ? and why does it call a function conky_draw_bg that fails ?

i also would like to know where is the problem in the script:
