If you really want your computer secure, the best way to do this is to make it very hard for other users to be able to log into your computer.

Passwords are good but some people can guess them. There are better ways like Facial Recognition and Fingerprint. But these can be bypassed. If you have an image of the user, you can print that out and hold it up against the web-cam to be able to bypass facial recognition logins. Fingerprints can also be bypassed by just using a latex glove as the users print is already on there. This is where the idea came from for the DNA login. A DNA login would be very hard to bypass by other users.

In the upcoming release of Pinguy OS 11.04 we have added this feature. All you need to be able to use this feature is to have a CONTOUR® USB meter. With this all you need to do is add a drop of blood to the device and plug it into the computer running Pinguy OS. If it can confirm that the DNA matches with the same DNA you original used to setup the user account it will log you in.

   

At the moment the app is still in a very early stage of development (we haven't even given it a name) but you should be able to download it soon to test it.

I would suggest testing for only a few select recognition sites (single nucleotide polymorphisms) instead of the entire genome. This optimization will allow for a quicker response time as opposed to a whole genome scan.

that will be a hell of a security feature

Ive been trying to find a linux program to read the data from a glucometer (i know there's probably one out there) but i haven't had much time to search for one the glucometer is the one touch ultra and they have a serial cable for data transfer.
Id hate to have to set up a windows pc just to record and monitor the results

but looking at the contour meter may solve the problem for me

IT looks like no-one has actually let you know guys but the DNA login system was an April Fool thought of by our own fair leader Pinguy

It seems he neglected to tell you all this bit of information after the post ha ha ha.

BUT...BUT... I WANT to prick my finger every time I log in to my computer! All $15 pocket-sized blood analysers come pre-packaged with full genome breakdown capabilities and corresponding SDKs, right?

I expect this to be real by 2012. Twice. Ya know, with Linux, someone probably designed this 6 years ago then tried to install Comic Sans the same day and bricked the source code.
