I just installed PinguyOS over my old Ubuntu 10.04 installation. When doing so, I chose to keep the same /home partition intact.

However, this lead to an issue: none of the customizations that PinguyOS makes to the interface are available. I have no conky, no customized menu bar, and I only have one Docky panel (had Docky installed previously).

I realize this is my error, as old settings are maintained, but I am curious how I can go about resetting ALL my settings to the default PinguyOS settings. All I really need to maintain are my personal files and Firefox favorites/passwords/etc (would like to see the new Firefox extensions and interface from PinguyOS as well).

P.S. - Also, this may require a separate ticket, but it seems that internet browsing is much slower than it was in Ubuntu. Takes a couple seconds to "look up" a domain. Are custom proxies being used?

This is kind of a hackjob of a fix but the easiest way would be to boot into the live CD and then mount the /home from your hard drive.

Then press ctrl+h to view hidden files and folders, now copy over the configuration files from all of the programs in the LiveCD /home to your actual /home on the hard drive.

I actually found a little simpler solution. I just created new users and copied my personal files from the old to the new.

Still have the slow internet issue, though. Firefox sits at the "Looking up " domain status for a few seconds before loading the page.

If you disable all the addons does it still do this? Might be one of them causing the issue. If the disabling them all fixes the problem you will have to go through them one at a time to pin down which one is giving the issue.

Regarding the slow internet connection, or more to the point, the slow name resolving, you can change your DNS server in 'SYSTEM' 'ADMINISTRATION' 'NETWORK' to a faster DNS service. I would recommend OpenDNS. The response time is very quick. The DNS servers to change / add are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Let me know if that helps with the name resolving. ~John~
